The Congress party has called for a judicial inquiry into the deaths of the children linked to the cough syrup incidents in both Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh.

Jitu Patwari, the MP Congress chief, stated that the corruption within Mohan Yadav's government contributed to this heartbreaking tragedy.

Deputy Chief Minister Rajendra Shukla visited hospitals in Nagpur on Tuesday and reported that 20 children from the state have died while being treated for kidney failure after ingesting the tainted syrup.

Currently, five children remain hospitalized in Nagpur, with two each at Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) and All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), and one in a private facility.

"A total of 20 children have lost their lives so far, with five still receiving treatment. The state government is dedicated to providing the best possible care to save these children," said Shukla.

The cough syrup linked to these fatalities was produced by a company from Tamil Nadu. The Deputy Chief Minister confirmed that measures have been taken against those negligent, including the company owner, the prescribing doctor, and officials from the Food and Drugs Administration (FDA).

Yadav has suspended two drug inspectors and a deputy director of the FDA and reallocated the state's drug controller amidst the ongoing investigation.

Praveen Soni, based in Chhindwara, has already been arrested for alleged negligence, and a case has been initiated against the manufacturer of the Coldrif cough syrup.
