Kolkata, May 12 (NationPress) The CPI-M General Secretary M.A. Baby penned a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday, urging for a special session of Parliament to discuss recent ceasefire developments and pertinent national issues.
The correspondence highlighted that while the ceasefire announcement provided a sense of relief across various segments, numerous pressing concerns remained unaddressed. This includes the recent terrorist assault in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which led to India initiating Operation Sindoor and dismantling several terror bases in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir.
The CPI-M leader articulated that despite the Indian populace demonstrating substantial unity following the terror incident in Pahalgam, the essence of national solidarity is being compromised by a toxic mix of hatred and jingoism, along with misinformation propagated by certain media and social media channels.
These actions have led to considerable confusion and unrest among the citizens.
Moreover, the letter pointed out that the United States President's announcement regarding the ceasefire, made prior to any official remarks from Indian representatives, has raised significant apprehensions. India has a well-established policy to resolve disputes bilaterally, free from third-party intervention. Consequently, the letter emphasized the necessity for clear and authoritative clarification from the highest echelons of the government.
In light of these developments, the CPI-M General Secretary insisted that the Prime Minister convene a special session of Parliament and personally address the matter to clarify the Union government's stance.
Earlier on the same day, CPI-M leadership had also questioned the Union government's silence regarding the decision by Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri to deactivate his X account following severe trolling directed at him and his daughter on social media.
