Kottayam, Jan 22 (NationPress) CPI-M councillor from Koothattukulam municipality, Kala Raju, expressed her disillusionment with her party on Wednesday following a troubling abduction incident that transpired last week.
The alleged abduction occurred after Raju openly voiced her discontent with her party and signaled her intention to oppose CPI-M directives during a municipal vote.
She was reportedly assaulted and forcibly taken away while attempting to participate in the voting process.
As a result of the attack, she was hospitalized and on Tuesday, due to her injuries, she was unable to provide her statement before the magistrate.
This incident sparked outrage in the Assembly on Tuesday, prompting the Pinarayi Vijayan government to announce that four arrests had been made. However, Raju stated on Wednesday that the police have yet to apprehend those who inflicted the most harm upon her.
“I don’t trust the police because those arrested are not the individuals who attacked me. I alerted my party about these issues beforehand, but they took no action. I was viciously attacked, my clothing was torn, and I was threatened with a knife in the party office. Now I live in fear for my life, as they threatened to eliminate my family,” Raju told the court while lying on a stretcher.
She dismissed her party leaders' assertions that she was in the custody of the Congress-led UDF.
“I will pursue legal action and I have not yet determined my future in politics. I want to know what actions my party took regarding a 56-year-old widow who was brutally assaulted. I cannot trust a party I believed in for the past twenty-five years,” added Raju, who was subsequently returned to the hospital.
In the meantime, as the case gained traction and local police faced criticism, they seized the official vehicle of the municipality’s chairman, as it was the vehicle used during Raju's alleged abduction.
