Kolkata, Jan 17 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi is prepared to participate in three events in the minority-heavy district of Malda, West Bengal, today, including two administrative engagements and a political rally.
During the political rally, which is the final event of the day, the Prime Minister is anticipated to deliver a sharp critique of the West Bengal government and the ruling Trinamool Congress, an issue he has previously alluded to in a Bengali social media post.
“I am looking forward to connecting with the citizens of Malda and the surrounding regions at the BJP rally tomorrow. Daily, new instances of TMC’s misgovernance emerge. The people of West Bengal are completely disillusioned with TMC's rule and are ready to turn against this administration. They yearn for a development-focused BJP government,” stated the Prime Minister in his social media update.
In addition to the rally, the Prime Minister discussed his administrative agenda in the district, with a focus on projects linked to Indian Railways.
“On 17 January, I will be in West Bengal. In Malda, we will either inaugurate or lay foundation stones for development projects worth over Rs 3,250 crore. Furthermore, we will celebrate the auspicious launch of the first Vande Bharat Sleeper train connecting Howrah and Guwahati — I am genuinely excited about this,” he added.
Another social media post highlighted the Union government's dedication to enhancing social infrastructure in West Bengal.
“Our commitment to fortifying railway infrastructure in West Bengal remains steadfast. Therefore, during the event, we will lay foundation stones for several significant projects, such as the new Balurghat–Hili railway line, a cutting-edge freight train maintenance center at New Jalpaiguri, upgrades to the Siliguri loco shed, and modernization of the maintenance facilities for Vande Bharat trains at Jalpaiguri. Additionally, we will flag off four new Amrit Bharat trains,” he noted.
On Sunday, he will engage in similar administrative and political activities at Singur in Hooghly district, the site of the halted Tata Motors’ Nano car project due to violent protests against land acquisition by the Trinamool Congress, then in opposition.
Preparations for the Prime Minister's visit are in full swing. Observers believe his presence in West Bengal is crucial not only from an administrative viewpoint but also politically, with the significant Assembly elections approaching later this year.
To recall, on December 20, the Prime Minister was scheduled to hold a public meeting in Taherpur in Nadia district. He arrived by helicopter from Kolkata Airport; however, due to poor visibility caused by dense fog, he couldn't land. After returning to the airport, he addressed the crowd in Taherpur via an audio bridge call, promising a return to West Bengal soon.
