Key Takeaways
Kolkata, Feb 11 (NationPress) The child of Manoj Verma, who previously served as the Kolkata Police Commissioner and is currently the Director of Security, has reportedly been ensnared in a cyber crime incident, according to police sources on Wednesday.
It has come to light that he lodged a complaint at the Lalbazar Cyber Crime Police Station on February 2, claiming that a sum of Rs 30,000 was illegitimately withdrawn from his bank account. Although the fraudulent activity occurred in Delhi, Piyush Verma, Manoj Verma’s son, traveled to Kolkata to file the complaint.
Reports indicate that he was looking for a rental apartment in Delhi when he made a payment using his UPI ID. He later realized that Rs 30,000 had been deducted from his bank account without his consent.
Following this, he submitted a complaint to the Lalbazar Cyber Crime Police Station on February 2.
In response to the complaint, police apprehended a suspect named Rakesh Pradhan from Odisha.
During questioning, Rakesh allegedly disclosed that two individuals from Delhi had exploited his bank account, identified as Sanjay and Akshay.
The investigation is ongoing, with Rakesh remaining in police custody, while authorities are searching for the other suspects believed to be involved in this cyber fraud case. Officials have emphasized that this matter is being treated with the utmost seriousness.
The rise in cyber crime poses significant challenges for law enforcement. In an effort to tackle the increasing number of cyber crime complaints, the Kolkata Police have initiated a 24-hour cyber crime helpline to ensure swift resolution of issues related to cyber fraud.
On Tuesday, Kolkata Police Commissioner Supratim Sarkar launched the helpline at the Cyber Crime Police Station in Lalbazar. The toll-free number 1800-3450066 is now operational, allowing citizens to reach out for assistance regarding cyber-related offenses at any hour.
