Amaravati, Nov 30 (NationPress) The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has raised a red alert for three districts in Andhra Pradesh, anticipating heavy to extremely heavy rainfall on Sunday due to the influence of cyclonic storm Ditwah over the Southwest Bay of Bengal and adjacent coasts of North Sri Lanka and Tamil Nadu.
The IMD has specifically alerted Sri Potti Sriramulu Nellore, Chittoor, and Tirupati districts in the southern coastal region and Rayalaseema.
Significant rainfall is expected at one or two locations in Prakasam, Annamayya, and YSR Kadapa districts across both areas, according to the IMD.
Moreover, heavy rain may also impact Anantapur, Sri Satya Sai, Kurnool, Nandyal, Palnadu, Bapatla, and Guntur districts in southern coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema.
Moderate rain or thundershowers are likely at various locations in South Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema, while similar conditions are expected across numerous areas in North Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam.
The IMD bulletin forecasts gale-force winds reaching speeds of 60-70 kmph, with gusts of up to 80 kmph, affecting isolated areas in both southern coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema.
Isolated locations in North Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam may experience squally winds of 40-50 kmph, gusting to 60 kmph. Thunderstorms with lightning are also possible in parts of coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, and Rayalaseema.
The Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA) Managing Director, Prakhar Jain, has urged residents of Prakasam, Nellore, and Tirupati districts to stay vigilant.
As indicated by the cyclone warning bulletin from the Cyclone Warning Centre in Visakhapatnam, the cyclonic storm Ditwah is currently located approximately 130 km south-southeast of Puducherry and 220 km south of Chennai.
