Bhopal, March 18 (NationPress) A court in Madhya Pradesh's Bhopal has sentenced a man to capital punishment for the heinous crime of raping and murdering a five-year-old girl in September 2024.

Two women co-defendants, the mother and sister of the primary accused, received two years in prison for their roles in deceiving authorities and concealing the truth after the crime.

Special District Court Judge Kumudini Patel described the incident as brutal and heinous, stating that the accused “do not deserve to live among us,” thus issuing a death sentence.

The court applied penalties under Sections 103, 66, and 64 (A), with the accused also facing life imprisonment under the POCSO Act. The two women found guilty of obstructing the investigation were sentenced to two years in prison, according to Special Public Prosecutor Divya Shukla.

On September 24 of last year, a five-year-old girl was reported missing from the Idgah Hills multi-storeyed building.

Her parents filed a missing report at the Idgah police station, prompting police to launch a search that lasted over 15 hours in nearby areas, including markets and public locations. Unfortunately, the victim's body was discovered in a locked flat within the same building.

The post-mortem examination indicated that the girl had been strangled to death following rape.

Authorities interrogated the accused Atul Bhalse, along with his sister Chanchal Bhalse and mother Basanti Bhalse, who resided in the flat where the victim was found, and they confessed to the crime.

The accused family participated in the search for the girl alongside her family, attempting to divert suspicion.
