Bengaluru, May 6 (NationPress) The Karnataka Police Department announced on Tuesday that comprehensive defence mock drills will take place at three strategic locations across the state, following directives from the Union government in response to the recent Pahalgam terror attack.
According to Prashant Kumar Thakur, the Director General of Police and Commandant General of Home Guards, Civil Defence, Fire and Emergency Services, as well as the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), these drills are scheduled for May 7 (Wednesday) at 4 PM in Bengaluru, Karwar, and Raichur.
“We have finalized the arrangements for the mock drills in Bengaluru, Karwar, and Raichur. Meetings with officials from the Fire Services and Civil Defence departments have been conducted,” Thakur stated.
He also noted that personnel from the National Cadet Corps (NCC), National Service Scheme (NSS), Civil Defence, and medical fields will actively participate in the drills.
“Sirens have been installed at 35 locations, which include police and fire stations, with 32 currently operational,” he mentioned.
Furthermore, the Union government will provide advisories outlining the necessary precautions for the public.
In Bengaluru, the drills will occur at multiple sites including the Indian Institute, CQL, ESI Hospital, NAL, Bangalore Dairy, Canara Bank, and several fire and police stations.
During the mock drills, sirens will activate in three distinct phases, generating various alarm tones.
“These sirens can be perceived from a distance of around three kilometres,” sources indicated.
Bengaluru is home to significant defence, scientific, and research facilities, while INS Kadamba, located in Karwar, serves as a major Indian Navy base. Karwar also houses the third-largest nuclear power facility in India, and Raichur is known for its thermal power plant.
