New Delhi, Jan 18 (NationPress) The Centre’s air quality panel on Friday revoked restrictions under Stage 3 of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) in Delhi and surrounding areas as the air quality improved in the city.
This decision follows a day after the Commission for Air Quality Management rolled back GRAP 4 due to a decrease in air pollution levels in Delhi-NCR.
The CAQM stated that its sub-committee on GRAP convened on Friday to assess the air quality conditions in the region alongside forecasts from IMD/IITM.
According to the Air Quality & Weather forecast provided by IMD/IITM, there is a potential for the AQI in Delhi to remain at the lower end of the ‘Very Poor’ category in the upcoming days because of favorable meteorological conditions and strong wind patterns.
“Construction & Demolition project sites that have received specific closure orders for violations or non-compliance with various statutory directives, rules, and guidelines shall not resume their operations without explicit permission from the Commission,” the CAQM emphasized in its statement.
Delhi’s average AQI has shown notable improvement, recording 289 on Friday, according to the AQI Bulletin from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), clearly indicating a downward trend.
Stages 3 and 4 of the GRAP were implemented on January 15 when the average AQI of Delhi exceeded the 350 mark and began to show a steep upward trend, indicating a potential breach of the 400 mark.
