New Delhi, April 26 (NationPress) The registration process for senior citizens aged 70 years and older to obtain Ayushman Health cards in Delhi commenced on Saturday, just before the official unveiling of the Rs 5 lakh health insurance initiative on Monday, as confirmed by an official.

The ‘Ayushman Vay Vandana Scheme’, which aims to serve six lakh beneficiaries in phases, will be officially inaugurated on April 28 by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri during an event at Thyagaraj Stadium.

Eligible senior citizens can register for the Ayushman Vay Vandana card by visiting the nearest empanelled hospital, downloading the Ayushman app (available on Google Play), or accessing the beneficiary portal online.

Senior citizens aged 70 and above, including those currently enrolled in AB PM-JAY, are qualified for an extra coverage of up to Rs 5 lakh annually in Delhi.

Health Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh previously stated, “Approximately 30 lakh individuals from over 6.5 lakh families, including an estimated 6 lakh senior citizens, will benefit from the Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY scheme in Delhi.”

Discussing the Delhi Government’s Heat Action Plan 2025, unveiled by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, the Health Minister mentioned that dedicated heatstroke wards will be established in government hospitals.

Hospitals are on high alert to handle heatstroke cases, and air-conditioned Centralised Accident and Trauma Services (CATS) are prepared to assist those requiring hospitalization, he added.

In conversations with the media, the Minister noted that facilities for patients in hospitals have been improved, providing cold drinking water and air-conditioned waiting areas.

Previously, Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda announced that with the launch of AB PM-JAY in Delhi, all senior citizens aged 70 and above, regardless of socio-economic background, will be covered under the Ayushman Vay Vandana Yojana, which grants Rs 5 lakh in free health coverage from the Centre.

This initiative aims to offer health coverage to all qualified senior citizens, with all pre-existing conditions covered from day one. “It is anticipated that over 6 lakh senior citizens in Delhi, representing nearly 4.5 lakh families, will benefit,” he stated.

On the topic of the Heat Action Plan, Delhi Minister Pankaj Singh mentioned that the government has released various brochures containing detailed information on heatstroke management units, CATs infrastructure, and disaster-ready schools.
