New Delhi, March 8 (NationPress) In a pointed critique of AAP leader Atishi's skepticism towards the BJP government's motives, Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva expressed support for Chief Minister Rekha Gupta's recent announcement regarding the Rs 2,500 Mahila Samriddhi Yojana in celebration of International Women's Day.
Sachdeva appreciated CM Gupta's declaration of a Rs 5,100 crore allocation for the Mahila Samriddhi Yojana in the 2025-26 Budget and the establishment of a four-member committee to set regulations and manage the distribution of the honorarium.
He remarked that while the women of Delhi are excited that every deserving woman in the community will soon receive an honorarium, it is unfortunate that AAP leader Atishi has once again made irresponsible remarks regarding the women's honorarium.
Sachdeva further questioned Atishi about why the former AAP government, despite announcing a Rs 2,000 crore provision in the 2024-25 budget and a Rs 1,000 monthly financial aid, failed to allocate any funds for women.
The Delhi BJP President noted that the party does not aim to politicize the women's honorarium, but if AAP intends to do so, then Arvind Kejriwal and Bhagwant Mann must explain why, after 37 months in power, the women's honorarium of Rs 1,000 has yet to be implemented in Punjab.
Atishi needs to clarify whether Kejriwal's promises of financial assistance for women in Punjab in 2021 and in the 2024 Delhi budget were merely false electoral pledges, Sachdeva stated.
Earlier, on International Women's Day, the Delhi BJP Mahila Morcha hosted a significant event at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium where National President J.P. Nadda celebrated the allocation of Rs 5,100 crore annually for this women-centric scheme.
J.P. Nadda stressed that as women's empowerment advances, society as a whole progresses.
“Currently, the BJP has the highest representation in both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha. From local councils to the Presidential office, women are spearheading various roles, which is commendable,” he noted.
He also pointed out that in India's 75-year history, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is the only woman to have presented the Budget eight times.
He highlighted that the BJP's dedication to women's empowerment is evident in its leadership—featuring two female Deputy Chief Ministers in other states and now a woman Chief Minister in Delhi. Such progress is unique to the BJP.
J.P. Nadda commended women for juggling family duties while actively engaging in social work and noted the changing landscape of India, with 2.5 crore women enrolled under MSMEs and 57,000 startups led by women.
He acknowledged the PM Modi government's initiatives to assist women, such as the Ujjwala Yojana, which has provided 12 crore women with free LPG connections, and the construction of 12 crore toilets to ensure proper sanitation facilities.
He also referred to the PM Modi-led government's provision of 26 weeks of maternity leave, a landmark move for women's welfare.
