Delhi CEO Reports Collection of 1.62 Lakh Forms During Electoral Roll Update

New Delhi, Nov 28 (NationPress) Booth Level Officers (BLOs) successfully gathered nearly 1.62 lakh forms during their house visits focused on making additions, deletions, and corrections to the electoral roll over the past three months, according to Delhi’s Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), R. Alice Vaz, on Thursday.
Vaz emphasized that for the forthcoming Assembly elections, the number of polling stations is expected to increase by 70, enhancing accessibility and convenience for voters throughout Delhi.
She mentioned that the house-to-house (H2H) verification process, initiated by BLOs on August 20, aimed at identifying unenrolled voters, prospective electors who will reach 18 by October 1, 2025, and entries needing deletion, such as those for deceased or relocated voters.
“Instances of multiple entries and family splits were also uncovered. During this comprehensive verification effort, BLOs collected around 1.62 lakh forms (6, 7, and 8) to manage additions, deletions, and corrections in the electoral roll,” Vaz stated.
The H2H initiative was consistently monitored at various levels by BLO Supervisors, Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AERO), Electoral Registration Officers (ERO), District Election Officers (DEO), and at the CEO level, as noted by Vaz.
The CEO’s comments regarding the electoral roll revision in the election-bound Delhi come shortly after Chief Minister Atishi's allegations of misconduct in the process.
On Tuesday, CM Atishi claimed to have received information from BLOs and AEROs indicating they were under pressure from SDMs to remove AAP voters' names from the electoral roll, allegedly under orders from the BJP-led Central government.
The Delhi BJP responded to Atishi's claims, labeling them as an admission of the ruling AAP's impending defeat in the upcoming Assembly elections and an attempt to disseminate misinformation regarding the removal of fake and “burqa voters” from the voter list.
Previously, the Delhi CEO urged voters to verify their names on the electoral roll, stating, “It’s important to note that having a voter identity card alone does not grant a voter the right to vote. The voter’s name must be present in the electoral roll.”
Additionally, Vaz mentioned that the rationalization of polling stations was conducted as a critical pre-revision task in the city.
“This initiative aims to reduce congestion at polling locations with a high number of stations, following the guidelines of the Election Commission of India (ECI). A total of 53 polling station locations were removed due to damaged or demolished buildings, while 123 new polling station locations were introduced. This resulted in a net increase of 70 polling station locations, improving accessibility and convenience for voters across Delhi,” she explained.
