New Delhi, July 11 (NationPress) Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Friday presented cheques of Rs 5 lakh each to 24 artisans whose stalls were impacted by a fire incident at Dilli Haat in April.
On the evening of April 30, 2025, a catastrophic fire erupted at Dilli Haat, INA, devastating 24 artisan stalls. In response to this calamity, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta had pledged an ex gratia relief of Rs 5 lakh to each artisan affected.
On fulfilling this promise, the Chief Minister distributed cheques of Rs 5 lakh each to the impacted artisans at the Delhi Secretariat on Friday.
A total of Rs 1.20 crore was allocated to the 24 artisans engaged in showcasing handicrafts, jewellery, carpets, woodwork, textiles, and various traditional crafts.
During the event, Chief Minister Gupta emphasized, “The newly elected government, supported by the people of Delhi, is steadfastly with the victims. We have distributed cheques of Rs 5 lakh each to all affected artisans and waived off six months' rent for their shops.”
She assured that the justice process will not experience delays and that every legitimate claim will be addressed promptly.
The 24 artisans whose stalls were destroyed have been offered free stalls at Dilli Haat INA for six months, from July 1, 2025, to December 31, 2025.
Tourism Minister Kapil Mishra, present at the cheque distribution ceremony, reiterated the government's commitment to safeguarding the interests of artisans and providing essential support.
He stated that the Delhi Government stands in solidarity with them, and through this ex-gratia relief, seeks to assist them in rebuilding their livelihoods.
“Our arts and crafts represent the essence of our cultural heritage. It is our shared duty to preserve them and support their guardians,” he remarked.
