New Delhi, June 21 (NationPress) On Saturday, Delhi's Chief Minister Rekha Gupta engaged in a Yoga session to commemorate International Yoga Day at the Water Sports Club located along the banks of the Yamuna River in East Delhi’s Sonia Vihar. She pledged to take significant steps toward cleaning the river.
Simultaneously, her Cabinet members led similar Yoga sessions at 10 different locations throughout the city.
Participating in the event themed ‘Yoga with Yamuna’, CM Gupta emphasized her commitment to restoring the river's cleanliness.
She criticized the former AAP government for failing to implement effective measures for the Yamuna's cleanup.
Gupta affirmed that her administration is dedicated to preventing untreated water from flowing into the river, ensuring that every drop entering the Yamuna is pure.
The ‘Yoga with Yamuna’ initiative sends a clear message: the river is being revitalized, and soon, along with boat Yoga, cruise services will also be initiated, she announced.
CM Gupta highlighted the importance of making Yoga Day a part of daily life, stating that ‘a healthy citizen is the foundation of a prosperous nation.’
She reiterated that the goal of transforming Delhi into a health capital is a collective duty.
Among those present were Delhi Cabinet Minister Kapil Mishra, MP Manoj Tiwari, Assembly Deputy Speaker Mohan Singh Bisht, Chief Secretary Dharmendra, senior officials, local representatives, school children, citizens, and Yoga instructors.
PWD Minister Parvesh Verma led a well-attended Yoga session at Thyagaraj Stadium, while Education Minister Ashish Sood practiced Yoga at Chhatrasal Stadium.
Sood remarked, “In 2014, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with the backing of 177 countries, proposed International Yoga Day at the United Nations, which was embraced globally. Since then, Yoga's international journey has been unstoppable as nations have embraced this ancient Indian tradition.”
Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa conducted Yoga Day celebrations at the Hockey Ground in Ashok Nagar, practicing with local residents, youth groups, and elders.
“I extend my heartfelt congratulations to the people of Delhi as we celebrate International Yoga Day after 11 years. This itself is historic,” stated Sirsa to the gathering.
“While the world celebrated Yoga Day, the previous Delhi government chose to overlook it—merely because it was an initiative by PM Modi. That mindset kept people away from something that is meant for all of us,” he added.
Minister for Social Welfare, SC/ST/OBC Welfare, Elections, and Cooperation Ravinder Indraj Singh participated in a Yoga session at Bawana Stadium.
Indraj emphasized that Yoga not only unites the body, mind, and soul but also reinforces the vision of ‘One Earth, One Health’.
Delhi Health Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh performed Yoga at Deen Dayal Upadhayay Park, DDU Marg, along with hundreds of residents and health officials.
The program was conducted under the auspices of the Directorate of AYUSH in collaboration with the Ayurvedic and Unani Tibbia College and Hospital and the Delhi government.
