Patna, June 21 (NationPress) Upendra Kushwaha, the president of the Rashtriya Lok Morcha (RLM) and a Rajya Sabha MP, has reportedly received death threats purportedly from the notorious Lawrence Bishnoi gang.
The alarming situation has triggered concerns within both political and security sectors, prompting an investigation by the Patna police.
Upon receiving a formal complaint from Kushwaha’s assistant at the Secretariat police station, Patna’s Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kartikeya Sharma launched an immediate probe.
In a surprising development, the individual responsible for these threats has been identified as Rakesh Kumar, a resident of Darauli in Siwan district.
He has been arrested and is currently in police custody.
Authorities recovered a mobile phone, a SIM card, and a notebook containing contact information for several individuals, including political figures, from him.
During questioning, Rakesh Kumar confessed to having previously been affiliated with Upendra Kushwaha’s party.
However, he expressed discontent with Kushwaha’s political direction and policies, leading him to make the threats.
Additionally, he admitted to pretending to be part of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang to instill fear and exert political pressure.
Patna SSP Kartikeya Sharma stated, “The accused had no known direct ties to the Bishnoi gang. His actions were driven by political frustration, and he exploited the gang's name to heighten the seriousness of his threat.”
Earlier, Kushwaha posted on X, “Between 8:52 PM and 9:20 PM on Thursday (June 19), he received seven consecutive threatening calls from unknown numbers, alongside an MMS/SMS warning him to cease political remarks against a 'particular party' or face severe repercussions.”
This incident is part of a troubling trend of threats allegedly linked to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, which have also targeted Bollywood actor Salman Khan and Purnea MP Pappu Yadav.
The gang's name is increasingly being misused to create fear and draw attention.
Authorities have urged the public to refrain from spreading panic and have assured that stringent actions will be taken against such impersonators.
