New Delhi, Jan 16 (NationPress) In anticipation of the Assembly elections scheduled for February 5, the Delhi Congress announced on Thursday its plan to enhance the free monthly electricity allowance from 200 units to 300 units, while also providing LPG cylinders at Rs 500. This initiative is coupled with a monthly free ration kit that includes 6 kg of rice and other essential items, should they gain power in the national capital.

Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy urged voters for a regime change in Delhi, asserting that, similar to his state, Congress aims to deliver on five commitments aimed at the welfare of the underprivileged in Delhi.

During a press conference alongside AICC Delhi in-charge Qazi Nizamuddin and Delhi Congress president Devender Yadav, Reddy underscored that the Metro system in Delhi, established during Sheila Dikshit's administration, serves as a national model.

“Delhi boasts the longest Metro network, constructed by Congress,” he emphasized, noting the previous government's efforts in promoting CNG vehicles and constructing flyovers.

“Since Congress lost power, the condition of Delhi has deteriorated significantly. Arvind Kejriwal has served as Chief Minister three times, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also won three terms, yet the situation remains bleak,” stated Reddy.

The alarming air quality in Delhi poses a serious threat to its residents, but Kejriwal and Modi seem preoccupied with making empty promises, reducing the national capital to a state of “failure,” he added.

Devender Yadav, President of the Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee, mentioned that around 17 lakh families will benefit from the Rs 500 LPG cylinder each month.

A monthly ration kit, comprising 5 kg of rice, 2 kg of sugar, 1 litre of cooking oil, 6 kg of pulses, and 250 gm of tea, will also be distributed free of charge to all impoverished families. Yadav expressed hope that this initiative would allow women to concentrate on their children's education instead of worrying about food supplies.

“If elected, Congress will deliver on its five promises, just as it has in Telangana,” he pledged, stating that the inaugural Cabinet meeting of a new Congress-led government would prioritize the welfare of the poor.

He also reminded voters of Congress’ pledge to provide Rs 2,500 monthly financial support for women, Rs 8,500 monthly financial assistance for educated, unemployed youth, and Rs 25 lakh health insurance for all residents of Delhi.

The upcoming Delhi Assembly elections to select a 70-member House will take place on February 5, with results announced on February 8. Notably, Congress currently has no representatives in the outgoing Assembly.
