Delhi Police constables Angad Singh Meena and Manish Kumar were awarded out-of-turn promotions to Head Constable on 14 June 2025, while several other personnel received the Asadharan Karya Puraskar — along with a cash reward of ₹50,000 each — for their bravery during twin disasters: the Flourish Stay hotel fire in Malviya Nagar on 6 June and a building collapse in Saidulajab, Saket on 30 May. The honours were conferred by Police Commissioner Satish Golchha at a felicitation ceremony held at the Delhi Police Headquarters.

The Twin Disasters

At least six people were killed when a multi-use building in Saidulajab (Saket), South Delhi, collapsed on 30 May. The structure housed a coaching centre, a café, and several offices; construction work was reportedly ongoing on the upper floors at the time. Several others sustained injuries in the collapse.

The Flourish Stay hotel in Malviya Nagar was engulfed by a deadly fire on 6 June, leaving multiple people — including foreign nationals — trapped inside. The blaze claimed several lives and caused extensive damage before emergency services brought it under control.

Acts of Bravery Recognised

Constables Meena and Kumar, both currently posted at Mehrauli Police Station, entered deep into the debris of the collapsed Saket building to rescue trapped survivors, despite severe risk to their own safety. Their promotion to Head Constable is a direct recognition of that life-saving intervention.

For the Malviya Nagar hotel fire, the Asadharan Karya Puraskar was awarded to personnel of the South District who coordinated closely with the Fire Brigade and other emergency services to evacuate multiple persons from the burning structure. Those honoured included SI (Exe.) Ram Kishan, HC (Exe.) Kartar, HC (Exe.) Hargyan, HC (Exe.) Dinesh Kumar, HC (Exe.) Sampat, Ct. (Exe.) Surender, Ct. (Exe.) Ravi Kant, and Ct. (Exe.) Sanjay.

Chief Minister Also Honours Rescuers

A day before the Police Commissioner's ceremony, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta felicitated rescuers, local residents, police personnel, administrative officials, and rescue workers at a special programme held at the Delhi Secretariat. Each honouree received a commendation certificate and a cheque of ₹21,000 for their efforts during both disasters.

Significance of the Recognition

Out-of-turn promotions in the Delhi Police are rare and are reserved for acts of exceptional courage — making this dual promotion notable. The Asadharan Karya Puraskar, the force's commendation for extraordinary service, underscores the scale of the response mounted during both incidents. Notably, the back-to-back disasters within a week tested the city's emergency infrastructure and drew attention to building safety and fire compliance standards in South Delhi's dense commercial zones.

As investigations into the causes of both incidents continue, the spotlight on the responders who contained the damage is expected to intensify scrutiny on prevention measures going forward.
