Delhi Police have ramped up their investigation into violence that broke out in central New Delhi during a protest organised by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), deploying an extensive multi-source video analysis operation to identify individuals allegedly responsible for the unrest on Monday, 21 July. The probe marks one of the most digitally intensive post-protest investigations the capital has seen in recent months.

Scale of the Video Evidence Operation

Investigators are scrutinising more than 250 videos drawn from four distinct sources: mobile phone recordings, CCTV footage, drone camera visuals, and footage from police body-worn cameras. Officials said the material is being cross-referenced to build a reliable visual record of who was present and what actions they took during the unrest.

Alongside visual identification, police are verifying whether any of the individuals traced through the footage carry prior criminal records — a standard step in establishing repeat-offender patterns during protest-related violence probes.

Was the Violence Pre-Planned or Spontaneous?

A central question driving the investigation is whether the incidents were orchestrated in advance or erupted without coordination. Investigators are specifically probing whether participants in the 'Sansad Chalo' march — during which stone-pelting, vandalism, and alleged attacks on police personnel and official vehicles were reported — acted in a planned, organised manner.

The probe has also extended into digital communication channels. Officials are examining whether WhatsApp or Telegram groups were used to mobilise or incite participants before the violence broke out, with communication pattern analysis now forming a key strand of the digital evidence review.

FIR Filed at Connaught Place Station

Delhi Police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) at the Connaught Place police station in connection with the violence and vandalism reported in the area. The case has been filed against unidentified persons, as investigators continue efforts to establish individual identities.

According to officials, a group of individuals allegedly vandalised police vehicles and pelted stones at a police team near Regal Cinema on the Outer Circle of Connaught Place during Monday's disturbances. The FIR covers both the property damage and the alleged assault on police personnel.

Officials said all available evidence is being examined to reconstruct the precise sequence of events. The twin-track approach — video identification combined with digital communications analysis — suggests authorities are building toward chargesheeting identifiable individuals rather than relying solely on the FIR against unknown persons.
