New Delhi, April 20 (NationPress) A drug trafficking syndicate operating across state lines has been dismantled, resulting in the arrest of two traffickers who were procuring cannabis from Odisha and Bihar for distribution in Delhi. Authorities seized 27 kg of illegal substances, as reported by an official on Sunday.

The arrested individuals, Birender Pratap Singh (46) and Jayaram Das (54), both hailing from Samaypur Badli in northwest Delhi, were implicated in the large-scale supply of ganja within the city, according to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch) Aditya Gautam.

Jayaram Das, who resides in Vaishali, Bihar, played a crucial role in the transportation of the narcotics from Odisha to Delhi.

He was apprehended following intelligence provided by his associate, Birender Pratap Singh, the police stated.

Their trafficking method involved traveling to Odisha by train to procure the drugs and returning to Delhi by bus, as indicated by law enforcement.

To evade capture, they frequently switched buses and destroyed their tickets after each trip, making it challenging for law enforcement to trace their movements, as explained by the DCP.

An uneducated individual, Jayaram Das sought quick financial gain and became involved in drug trafficking after being recruited by Birender Pratap Singh, who offered him a commission for supplying ganja, according to police reports.

Birender Pratap Singh, originally from Samastipur, Bihar, moved to Delhi seeking employment and turned to illegal activities for easy money.

He has a criminal history, having been previously charged under the Arms Act and the Excise Act in cases filed at the Prashant Vihar and Begumpur police stations in Delhi.

After serving time in prison, he resumed his involvement with narcotics.

Elaborating on the operation, the DCP mentioned, "Acting on information received from Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Kuldeep Maan, a specialized team from the Delhi Police Crime Branch, including Inspector Vinay, Sub-Inspector Anurag, ASI Ashok Dahiya, Head Constables Surya, Vikram, Azad Singh, and Constable Prateek was assembled under the direction of Inspector Satish Malik and the guidance of Assistant Commissioner of Police, Naresh Solanki, to apprehend the suspects.

A raid was executed, leading to the recovery of 27.568 kg of cannabis from Birender Pratap Singh.

Subsequently, a case was filed under Sections 20/25 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 by the Crime Branch, as stated by the police.
