New Delhi, Jan 13 (NationPress) The contest for Delhi is characterized by intense competition among political factions aiming to attract voters, especially those residing in slum areas throughout the capital.

IANS conducted an assessment of the living conditions of slum residents in Geeta Colony and examined the advancements made over the last decade under the AAP government.

Numerous inhabitants of Geeta Colony reported facing significant challenges related to water shortages and unsanitary conditions, with their repeated appeals to authorities largely ignored.

Chandravati, a local resident, expressed the daily struggle they endure to secure clean drinking water.

“Once elected, party leaders tend to forget about us. They visit solely for votes, promising assistance with hands clasped, yet post-elections, our issues are disregarded. The plight of slum dwellers is only acknowledged during election season,” she lamented.

Kiran Devi voiced her frustrations regarding the local representative, stating that they have been abandoned.

“We have issues with water and drainage,” she noted.

“We encounter a water crisis throughout the year, during both summer and winter. We resort to purchasing water bottles for Rs 20,” she added.

Sulekha pointed out that during elections, politicians actively seek votes, but vanish thereafter. She acknowledged one achievement of the Delhi government: the construction of a road. However, the water issue remains unresolved.

Shyam Mishra, on the other hand, expressed his support for the current government, claiming that the local MLA has made contributions to their neighborhood.

“We will back the Delhi government in the upcoming elections. They have ensured free electricity,” he stated.

Gopal Singh criticized the Delhi government for a lack of progress and insisted that the needs of children and the elderly should be prioritized.

Vinay remarked that the local MLA has been ineffective, and the community barely recognizes him.

“The local MLA secured a ticket for his son from here. Had he performed his duties, he wouldn’t have needed to do that. Delhi requires change this time, beginning right here,” he asserted.
