Kuala Lumpur, Oct 27 (NationPress) External Affairs Minister (EAM) S. Jaishankar engaged with New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon on Monday during the ASEAN Summit held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The discussions focused on strengthening their commitment to a secure Indo-Pacific region.
EAM Jaishankar, representing Prime Minister Narendra Modi, participated in the 20th East Asia Summit in Kuala Lumpur on the same day.
Post-meeting, Jaishankar shared on X, "It was a pleasure to meet PM Christopher Luxon of New Zealand at the ASEAN 2025 meetings. I conveyed warm regards from PM Narendra Modi and welcomed his dedication to enhancing our bilateral cooperation and fostering a free and open Indo-Pacific."
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) noted that India and New Zealand have long enjoyed a close and amicable relationship.
Earlier this year in March, Luxon visited India, where both nations initiated discussions on a Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement (FTA). He was accompanied by a high-ranking business delegation and engaged with Indian business leaders in Mumbai.
During this visit, Luxon also met Prime Minister Narendra Modi to deliberate on regional security issues in the Indo-Pacific area. Both nations reiterated their dedication to bolstering defense and maritime collaborations.
