The uproar regarding the death of a female patient at GTB Hospital has sparked rumors suggesting that she succumbed to injuries from an alleged assault by another patient, a claim that the health department of the Delhi government has categorically rejected.
While there were unverified reports suggesting that the New Usmanpur police had apprehended an individual from Kachchi Khajuri in connection with the alleged incident, the Delhi government refuted any claims of negligence regarding the patient’s safety during her treatment at Jag Pravesh Chandra Hospital (JPCH).
The statement from the Health Department indicated that a medical examination of the victim revealed that “no physical or sexual assault was found.”
This statement pertains to an incident that took place on June 23 at JPCH, concerning the admission of a 23-year-old female patient who later died while receiving treatment at Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital.
According to the Delhi government, reports from the hospital indicated that the patient was discovered in an unconscious state on June 21 in Sonia Vihar.
The patient was transported to JPCH by the Delhi Police and received appropriate medical care. On June 22, she was transferred from the Casualty Ward to the High Dependency Unit (HDU) of JPCH, as detailed in the statement.
It was reported that the patient went missing from the HDU Ward in the early hours of June 23 and was later found on hospital grounds in the afternoon.
After receiving treatment, the patient was referred from JPCH to GTB on the evening of June 23 with a suspected poisoning diagnosis, and she passed away on the night of June 24, as stated.
A committee comprised of senior doctors and officers was formed on June 23 at Jag Pravesh Chandra Hospital to investigate the situation. Reports from the Medical Superintendent, JPCH, and the medical examination of the victim confirmed that no physical or sexual assault was found.
The Health Department also confirmed that CCTV cameras were operational outside of the HDU in the hospital, and as part of the investigation, necessary footage has been collected and submitted to the Investigation Officer of the Delhi Police.
Based on the findings of the committee and the CCTV footage, details of the nursing officer, sanitation staff, and security guard on duty were provided to the investigation officer on Wednesday.
The statement from the Health Department mentioned that a post-mortem examination will be conducted at GTB Hospital once the necessary legal protocols have been followed by the Delhi Police.
