Bhopal, June 26 (NationPress) The Madhya Pradesh government has embarked on the digitisation of documents concerning Waqf properties scattered across the state, as reported by a senior official to IANS on Thursday.
This digitisation initiative is being executed by the Minority Welfare Department in partnership with the Revenue Department of the Madhya Pradesh government.
The comprehensive process, which encompasses the identification, verification, and digitisation of properties, has been launched in compliance with the Waqf Amendment Act- 2025.
The verification aims to evaluate the tenancy and occupation status of these properties, with a senior official from the Revenue Department asserting that Madhya Pradesh is setting a benchmark in the digitisation of Waqf properties.
According to the official, a total of 15,003 Waqf properties have undergone verification in the state through extensive physical surveys and document checks across 11 districts.
"In the initial phase, the Waqf Board has validated the digitised records. The second phase involves district-level verification conducted by the Revenue Department," the official added.
As per the official's statement, 2,425 properties have been verified so far by the State Revenue Department from the total digitised properties.
The analysis of Waqf properties across the 11 districts shows that the digitisation process has reached successful completion, according to the official.
Verification has been finalised in districts including Ujjain, Vidisha, Bhopal, Shajapur, Sehore, Raisen, Indore, Dhar, Burhanpur, Dewas, and Mandsaur.
State government data indicates that Ujjain has 1,054 Waqf properties, Vidisha has 929, Bhopal has 816, Shajapur has 801, Sehore has 699, Raisen has 665, Indore has 645, Dhar has 638, Burhanpur has 573, Dewas has 572, and Mandsaur has 528.
The Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025 came into effect on April 8, 2025, after receiving presidential assent from Droupadi Murmu following parliamentary approval.
This amendment aims to enhance the management of Waqf properties, fostering improved transparency and accountability.
Additionally, the Act revises the composition of Waqf Boards and increases governmental oversight over Waqf properties.
The legislation also aspires to boost governance by promoting transparency in property management, improving cooperation between Waqf Boards and local authorities, and safeguarding stakeholders' rights.
