Amaravati, June 26 (NationPress) - In a bold move to combat drug abuse, the Andhra Pradesh government declared on Thursday its plans to seize the assets of individuals engaged in the cultivation, transportation, or distribution of drugs. Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has initiated a comprehensive campaign targeting ganja and other narcotics, pledging to transform Andhra Pradesh into a drug-free state.
In observance of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, the state rallied behind the motto 'No Drugs Bro', symbolizing a collective determination to combat substance misuse.
CM Naidu participated in a walkathon in Guntur, joined by citizens and students who held banners and raised slogans in support of a drug-free community. Following the rally, the Chief Minister addressed a conference, emphasizing the government’s unwavering commitment. ‘We will not tolerate drugs in any form. Those involved in the sale of ganja or narcotics will face severe repercussions — including property confiscation,’ he cautioned.
To enhance public involvement, the state has launched reporting channels, including a WhatsApp helpline (8977781972) and a toll-free number (1972), allowing individuals to report drug-related incidents anonymously.
The government is also expanding its rehabilitation services by establishing 56 new de-addiction centers, three of which will meet international standards. Additionally, fast-track courts for NDPS cases are being introduced in major cities such as Visakhapatnam, Rajahmundry, Guntur, and Tirupati.
To foster ongoing awareness and prevention, schools will introduce 'Eagle Clubs', and celebrities will be encouraged to actively participate in anti-drug initiatives. The government plans to utilize technology, including drones and CCTV networks, to monitor and address drug-related activities more efficiently.
CM Naidu criticized the previous administration for its lack of action, pointing out that under the YSRCP, Visakhapatnam became a hotspot for ganja trafficking. ‘Not a single day was dedicated to drug prevention. We are now facing the consequences of that inaction,’ he stated.
Expressing concern over the rising incidence of drug abuse among the youth, he remarked: ‘Drugs are ruining lives and turning individuals into criminals. Our mission is to eradicate this threat at its source. By 2047, we aspire to make the Telugu nation the best — which entails establishing a drug-free society today.’
Calling for community involvement, CM Naidu urged citizens to take an active role in reporting drug use and supporting those seeking rehabilitation. ‘This is not merely a government initiative; it’s a movement. Together, we will reclaim our future,’ he concluded.
