New Delhi, Oct 11 (NationPress) As New Delhi fortifies its connections with the Taliban regime in Kabul, Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi, currently on a week-long visit to the capital, is anticipated to advocate for enhanced trade collaboration between the two nations.
Sources familiar with the situation reveal that over two dozen Afghan traders are expected to visit the capital on Monday to engage with FM Muttaqi.
“These traders are due to arrive in New Delhi on Monday. They will hold discussions with FM Muttaqi, marking a significant initiative from Kabul to broaden trade relations in sectors such as dry fruits, pharmaceuticals, public infrastructure, and more,” stated an official.
During a restricted press conference at the Afghan Embassy in New Delhi last Friday, Muttaqi supported trade via the Chabahar port route and urged for the opening of the India-Pakistan Attari-Wagah border.
India is currently reliant on the Chabahar port in Iran for trade with Afghanistan, as Pakistan prohibits India from using land routes.
FM Muttaqi, in his meeting with External Affairs Minister Jaishankar at Hyderabad House in New Delhi, invited Indian enterprises to investigate mining prospects in Afghanistan, which is believed to be rich in valuable minerals including copper, iron, lithium, and gold.
Last year, the Taliban actively sought Indian investments in significant mining initiatives such as the Khawja Gor Gor Coal project in Badghis province, the Abgarmak Copper project in Herat, and several others, though these efforts did not yield successful outcomes.
These developments occur at a time when relations between Kabul and Islamabad are particularly strained.
On Thursday, upon his arrival in Delhi, Muttaqi witnessed Pakistan's cross-border operation targeting TTP camps in Kabul, perceived as a direct threat to the Taliban leadership for their outreach to New Delhi.
