New Delhi, Jan 1 (NationPress) In a recent gathering with the Chief Minister of Delhi, Rekha Gupta, senior officials from Delhi Metro disclosed that anti-smog guns and mist spray systems are being implemented at Metro stations and along elevated corridors to mitigate dust and curb pollution, as stated by an official on Thursday.
The Chief Minister commended the initiatives undertaken by the Metro and emphasized that the DMRC should serve as a pioneering model in Delhi's battle against pollution, inspiring other departments to follow suit. She reiterated that ensuring clean air for the capital's residents is a top priority for the government.
In the meeting held on Wednesday evening, Metro officials informed CM Rekha Gupta that the Delhi Metro is incorporating effective and technology-driven approaches to combat pollution, as per an official statement.
As per the officials, 83 anti-smog guns, along with various dust control measures, have already been put in place at construction sites. Additionally, plans are underway to install 20 new anti-smog guns, with several already operational. The remaining 10 anti-smog guns are expected to be set up soon.
Metro officials are optimistic that the full installation of all anti-smog guns will be finalized by January 15. The stations that have either received or are set to receive these guns include Kashmere Gate, Samaypur Badli, Dwarka Sector-21, Rajouri Garden, Anand Vihar, Peeragarhi, Ashok Vihar, and Metro Bhawan, among others.
Further, Metro officials conveyed to CM Gupta that mist spray systems have already been implemented at 37 metro stations. Under this plan, mist spray systems will be established at all elevated metro stations in Delhi, with a focus on those situated on major roads. The majority of this work is projected to be completed by January 20.
At locations without anti-smog guns, the installation of mist spray systems will be obligatory. Stations where mist spray systems have already been installed include Pitampura, Rithala, Ghitorni, Karol Bagh, Moti Nagar, Uttam Nagar East, Nirman Vihar, Kailash Colony, Badarpur, and Moti Bagh.
Additionally, Metro officials informed CM Gupta that alongside pollution management, Delhi Metro is placing significant emphasis on the beautification and cleanliness of the capital. A plan has been conceived to execute artwork on approximately 200 additional metro pillars, with a target completion date of April 30. Of these, the artwork on 50 pillars is aimed to be completed soon.
Currently, artwork on 10 pillars has been finalized, while work on several others continues. Moreover, maintenance work on central verges around various metro stations is being initiated.
In the initial phase, 25 stations have been earmarked where work is either underway or will commence shortly. Coordination has been established with the Public Works Department (PWD), and the necessary technical details have been shared.
