New Delhi, Nov 6 (NationPress) A 25-member delegation from the Mizoram Secretariat Services Officers made a visit to the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) on Thursday for an enlightening knowledge-sharing session centered on the theme 'Smart City initiatives'.

This visit was part of a training program organized collaboratively by the NDMC and the Indian Institute of Public Administration (IIPA).

During the session, NDMC Secretary Rakesh Kumar emphasized the civic agency's holistic approach to sustainable urban development and modern governance under the Smart City initiatives.

He highlighted key initiatives that have transformed NDMC into a 'Smart City' and a citizen-centric capital of India.

Several senior NDMC officials, including the Officer on Special Duty (Personnel/Education), Chief Engineers (Civil and Electrical), Chief Architect, Medical Officer of Health, and Directors of Horticulture and Training participated in the discussion, sharing valuable insights on sector-specific initiatives and innovations under the Smart City development projects.

Officer Shakuntala Srivastava delivered a presentation that showcased a variety of smart initiatives implemented by the NDMC.

Highlighted initiatives included the Integrated Command and Control Centre, smart e-learning, green energy projects through solar power, smart parking, aesthetic beautification, scientific solid waste management, source segregation, and the RRR (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) model.

The NDMC also informed the delegation about the development of Anupam Colonies, which are based on community-driven best practices, initiatives for extensive horticulture and green-cover expansion, the installation of mist sprayers on electric poles to tackle air pollution, and the scientific disposal of electronic waste.

During the visit to the Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC), Gauri Shankar Aggarwal, the ICCC In-charge, explained its operations.

The ICCC, a cutting-edge facility located at Palika Kendra, acts as the digital brain of the city.

Here, streams of real-time data converge from various sources across the capital including CCTV surveillance, air quality sensors, smart streetlights, sanitation systems, and traffic monitoring networks.

The ICCC provides a comprehensive view of the city through a 'single pane of glass', enabling rapid, data-driven decisions to enhance public safety, optimize utilities, and manage emergencies.

With the integration of Geographic Information System mapping, supervisory control, data acquisition, and GPS-tracked waste management, NDMC has advanced urban management to unprecedented levels of precision and efficiency.

More than just a technological feat, the ICCC reflects NDMC's aspiration for a resilient, intelligent, and citizen-first New Delhi—a city that listens, responds, and evolves in real-time to its citizens' needs.

The Mizoram delegation expressed their admiration for NDMC's exemplary Smart City initiatives, which enhance service delivery to citizens, and explored ways to implement similar strategies in Mizoram's urban development plans.
