New Delhi, March 8 (NationPress) Referring to the unfulfilled pledge as a ‘jumla’, the Opposition parties, AAP and Congress, have condemned the BJP government in Delhi for abandoning women and not delivering the promised Rs 2,500 monthly assistance to them.
AAP’s Leader of Opposition Atishi remarked that instead of direct financial aid, women in Delhi have received a four-member committee tasked with formulating eligibility criteria, which will further delay the distribution of funds.
“The BJP has proven that there was no ‘Modi ki Guarantee’. What they delivered was merely a jumla,” stated Atishi.
Congress leader Alka Lamba noted that women in Delhi are still waiting, even after the March 8 deadline for the financial aid has passed.
“We will trust the government only when funds are actually deposited in the bank accounts of the beneficiaries,” said Lamba, Mahila Congress National President.
Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Devender Yadav accused the BJP government on Saturday of betraying the trust of women by reneging on its promise to provide Rs 2,500 to all 71 lakh women.
According to the stringent eligibility criteria announced by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta today, it is estimated that only 15-20 percent of the over 71 lakh women voters in the Capital will benefit, he mentioned.
The ‘Mahila Samriddhi Yojna’, intended to empower women in the Capital, has turned out to be ineffective, Yadav added.
He also pointed out that the CM failed to mention the provision of cooking gas cylinders for Rs 500.
Yadav expressed that women in Delhi had high hopes that CM Gupta, being a woman herself, would fully enact the BJP’s election promise of transferring Rs 2,500 to every woman’s account on International Women’s Day.
He recalled that PM Modi had assured during the Delhi Assembly election campaign that the scheme would be approved in the first Cabinet meeting of the new BJP government; however, the CM has yet to clarify when the funds will be transferred to women’s bank accounts.
He emphasized that women voted for the BJP in large numbers, but now, after assuming power, the BJP government appears to have deceived the women of Delhi, similar to the AAP.
Yadav concluded by stating that Rs 2,500 for every woman in Delhi would have provided substantial relief for households struggling daily, but the BJP has once again employed a political jumla to deceive the innocent, underprivileged women of Delhi.
