New Delhi, May 31 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Delhi, Rekha Gupta, announced on Saturday that the much-anticipated Rs 2,500 monthly financial aid for underprivileged women in the national capital is set to launch shortly. She criticized the Congress government in Himachal Pradesh and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Punjab for failing to implement similar initiatives, either due to unfulfilled promises or insufficient funding.
During a podcast-style conversation with actor Anupam Kher to celebrate the Delhi government's 100 days in office, CM Gupta stated, “We have convened six meetings to develop the policy regarding this scheme, and I have earmarked Rs 5,100 crore in the budget for the Mahila Samridhi Yojana.”
She emphasized her government's commitment to avoid the pitfalls of the Himachal Pradesh administration, which announced a financial initiative but subsequently lacked the resources to support women.
Furthermore, CM Gupta criticized the previous administration under Arvind Kejriwal, which promised Rs 1,000 to women in Delhi just before the Lok Sabha elections but failed to deliver.
“The AAP government in Punjab has also not initiated the promised financial assistance program,” she remarked.
Recognizing the significant expectations women in Delhi have from the BJP government, CM Gupta assured that the Mahila Samridhi Yojana will be rolled out soon for eligible women. “We aim for this scheme to be a long-lasting benefit without interruptions,” she added.
Reflecting on the past decade while the AAP governed, she mentioned that BJP workers and leaders remained resilient, continuously engaging with the community.
“As we witnessed the injustices faced by the people of Delhi, the daily exposure of corruption, and the liquor shops proliferating on every street, we persevered amidst these challenges... Despite Delhi falling behind during those years, we strived to rectify matters and remained close to the people,” she said.
Winning back public trust within 100 days was a daunting task, especially after many felt betrayed by the earlier anti-corruption campaign launched from Ramlila Maidan.
“Those seeking integrity in governance felt disheartened. They lost faith in politicians again. However, my cabinet and I have endeavored to connect with the public, which is gradually helping to mend the hearts of the people of Delhi who have endured for 27 years,” CM Gupta stated, noting the neglect of the Yamuna River and the city by previous administrations.
