Chennai, October 30 (NationPress) According to industry insiders, actress Wamiqa Gabbi is set to portray the female lead alongside renowned Tamil film director Lokesh Kanakaraj in his debut film as a lead actor.

The untitled project is being helmed by the critically acclaimed Arun Matheeswaran.

Reports indicate that the Bollywood star, famed for her roles in the Malayalam film 'Godha' and the Tamil film 'Malai Nerathu Mayakkam', has been brought on board for this gangster drama.

Shooting for the film is progressing rapidly, and it is expected to be completed by January next year.

It’s worth noting that Lokesh Kanakaraj has undergone martial arts training for this role, having trained in Thailand right after directing the blockbuster 'Coolie', which premiered globally on August 14 this year.

On the directing side, Lokesh Kanakaraj is slated to work on 'Kaithi 2', featuring Karthi in the lead role.

Interestingly, pre-production for 'Kaithi 2' is already in progress. Recently, Dream Warrior Pictures, the production house behind the Kaithi franchise, celebrated the sixth anniversary of the original film.

On social media, they shared, "Some stories fade. Some become legends. Dilli stole our hearts — and still rules them! Six years on, #Kaithi stands tall. #6YearsOfKaithi"

Producer S R Prabhu, whose company is producing the upcoming film, mentioned in May that work on 'Kaithi 2' had already started, with shooting set to commence by year-end. Karthi is expected to finish his current project with director Tamizh, known for the acclaimed cop drama 'Taanakaran', before starting on 'Kaithi 2'.

For those who may not know, the first film in the franchise, 'Kaithi', became a massive hit. Lokesh Kanakaraj revealed that his inspiration for 'Kaithi' came partly from the Bruce Willis film 'Die Hard'.

He recounted, "My assistant directors and I were discussing a news report that sparked the story for 'Kaithi'."

One unique aspect of 'Kaithi' was the absence of female leads in the narrative.

The plot followed a man returning from prison, all unfolding over a single night, featuring Karthi as a lorry driver in an action-packed thriller.
