New Delhi, Oct 28 (NationPress) The Delhi Police has effectively exonerated a painter and two individuals accused by a woman of perpetrating an acid attack in Ashok Vihar, North Delhi, last week, stated Special Commissioner of Police Ravindra Singh Yadav on Tuesday.
Yadav expressed relief that justice has been served to the three innocent individuals, as the supposed attack was, in fact, a fabrication orchestrated by the complainant and her family to settle personal grievances with the accused.
According to Yadav, an extensive review of technical evidence, including CCTV footage, confirmed that the three individuals were not at the scene of the alleged acid attack that occurred on October 26 near Laxmi Bai College.
“This incident appears to be rooted in longstanding animosity concerning a property owned by the father of the woman who made the false accusations,” he indicated.
The Special Commissioner noted that the investigation is ongoing but preliminary findings suggest a conspiracy involving the 20-year-old woman, her father, brother, and uncle aimed at wrongfully implicating the three men in a fabricated acid attack.
Both families have a documented history of legal disputes and criminal allegations against each other.
Additionally, investigators revealed that the woman’s father, Akil Khan, 45, who is now in custody, had previously faced sexual harassment allegations from the painter Jitender’s wife just days before the staged acid attack.
Yadav mentioned that the police are consulting legal experts regarding the next phase of the investigation, as it encompasses two distinct issues: the acid attack and the allegations of sexual misconduct against the father of the alleged victim.
“At this juncture, it is a relief for the police to have thwarted the conspiracy by the woman's family to wrongfully accuse three innocent individuals,” Yadav stated.
He further indicated that the police are considering taking action against the woman’s family for filing a false report.
The investigation continues to verify claims made by the woman that she and her relatives transported toilet cleaner from home to simulate the acid attack, later presenting at a hospital with burns on her hands.
The Special Commissioner assured that they will soon disclose the details regarding the roles of the woman’s family members in this staged incident and their attempts to implicate Jitender and his aides, Ishan and Arman.
Yadav affirmed that in cases involving crimes against women, the police promptly register a complaint upon receiving one, which occurred in this instance. An FIR was filed under Sections 124(1) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita based on the woman’s allegations against the three suspects.
However, investigations have revealed that the accusations against the three alleged acid attackers were unfounded, and they were not present at the location where the incident was purportedly staged, according to police reports.
