Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Oct 27 (NationPress) In response to a shocking acid attack on a 20-year-old woman in northwest Delhi, Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena has called upon Police Commissioner Satish Golcha to implement decisive measures against the offenders.
“He has urged the Commissioner of Police to ensure that those responsible are apprehended swiftly and that the harshest penalties under the law are pursued,” stated an official from Raj Niwas.
The official also noted on X, “The LG has reacted with utmost seriousness to this distressing incident of acid attack in the Capital.”
The incident, which unfolded on Sunday, involved a 20-year-old woman who suffered burn injuries to her hands after allegedly being attacked with acid by her stalker and two accomplices.
According to police reports, the attack occurred near Laxmi Bai College in the Ashok Vihar region of northwest Delhi. Authorities have initiated a manhunt for the suspects after analyzing CCTV footage for leads.
The victim, a second-year student at a private college, was en route to an extra class when the assailants intercepted her.
“The main perpetrator, Jitender, along with his associates Ishan and Arman, approached her on a motorcycle,” explained Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northwest) Bhisham Singh.
As per the woman’s testimony, Ishan passed a bottle to Arman, who then hurled the acid at her.
In a reflexive action, she raised her hands to protect her face, resulting in burns on both hands while the attackers fled the scene immediately.
The injured woman was transported to Deep Chand Bandhu Hospital, where medical staff provided initial care and notified law enforcement.
A forensic team subsequently visited the scene to gather samples and evidence. Preliminary investigations indicate that Jitender, a resident of Mukundpur—the same area where the victim resides—had been stalking her for several months.
Reports suggest that a heated argument between them occurred about a month prior, after which the harassment intensified.
A case has been filed under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), addressing acid attacks and criminal conspiracy.
This incident has reignited concerns about women's safety and the accessibility of corrosive substances in the national capital.
The Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) organized protests outside the college, demanding the strictest punishment for the offenders and effective reforms to restrict acid sales.
