Delhi Police to Allocate 20% Constable Posts for Ex-Agniveers, Waiving Physical Test
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, March 29 (NationPress) In a significant initiative to incorporate former Agniveers into the police force, the Delhi Police has announced the reservation of 20 percent of its constable (executive) positions for those who have fulfilled their service under the Agnipath scheme.
A notification from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) reveals that these applicants will be exempt from the physical efficiency examination and will receive an extension in the upper age limit, aligning with the Central government’s comprehensive strategy to integrate Agniveers into security roles post their four-year military service.
According to the notification, ex-Agniveers will benefit from a three-year relaxation in the maximum age limit for the recruitment of constable (executive), which is currently set at 18-25 years. Furthermore, individuals from the inaugural Agniveer cohort will qualify for an additional five-year relaxation, raising their upper age limit to 30 years.
The notification indicates that the Lieutenant Governor of the National Capital Territory of Delhi, under the authority of the Delhi Police Act, 1978, has modified Rule 9 of the Delhi Police (Appointment & Recruitment) Rules, 1980, which oversees the recruitment for the position of Constable (Executive) (Male).
The MHA notification elaborates on the position details, vacancy counts, and salary structure: The role is classified as Group C Non-Gazetted/Non-Ministerial, featuring 42,451 positions for 2024 (subject to workload adjustments) with a Pay Matrix Level-3, ranging from Rs 21,700 to Rs 69,100.
The updated rules also preserve the existing stipulations regarding age limits, qualifications, and disqualifications for appointments, while granting the government the authority to relax provisions for particular candidate categories if necessary.
Concerning the recruitment process, the notification accommodates special reservations and concessions for categories such as SC/ST/OBC, ex-servicemen, and sports figures, in line with Central government guidelines. The regulations clarify that these modifications will not affect other existing provisions related to reservation, age relaxation, and concessions.
The notification underscores that the revised regulations will take effect from the publication date and formalise the initiative for integrating former Agniveers into the Delhi Police. The MHA highlighted that this strategy aligns with its ongoing commitment to provide career opportunities for ex-Agniveers while enhancing the ranks of the Delhi Police with disciplined and trained personnel.
This amendment is poised to facilitate recruitment for former armed forces members and promote the involvement of Agniveers who have completed their four-year service, offering them a clear trajectory into civil security roles and acknowledging their prior training and service.
