New Delhi, Jan 20 (NationPress) The Delhi Police on Tuesday cracked a perplexing robbery-cum-stabbing case that took a shocking turn, revealing that the purported victim was actually the offender implicated in a grave violation of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
In a statement, the Additional Commissioner of Police for the East District noted that the personnel from New Ashok Nagar Police Station successfully solved the case through relentless efforts, scientific investigation, detailed CCTV analysis, and the application of human intelligence. The main suspect has been apprehended, and the stolen mobile phone along with the knife used in the crime has been recovered.
During the investigation, a startling conspiracy was uncovered, revealing that the alleged victim was the actual perpetrator of a POCSO crime, with a minor witness emerging as a conspirator. Appropriate legal action has been initiated, demonstrating the professionalism and thoroughness of the investigative team.
According to police reports, the case surfaced in the early hours of January 2, when the New Ashok Nagar Police Station received a report from Lal Bahadur Shastri (LBS) Hospital regarding a stabbing victim admitted from the Kondli Pul area. The injured individual was identified as Jay Prakash, a 32-year-old resident of Old Kondli, Delhi-96. Due to the severity of his injuries, he was referred from LBS Hospital to AIIMS Trauma Centre, where he continued to receive treatment.
The medico-legal case (MLC) indicated that the victim sustained incised wounds in the epigastric region of the abdomen and on the left side of the middle back. Consequently, a case was registered under FIR No. 02/26, Section 109(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at the New Ashok Nagar Police Station, prompting the investigation.
Under the close oversight of the ACP, Kalyanpuri, a dedicated team was formed, including Inspector Haroon Ahmad, Sub-Inspector Vinay Kumar, Head Constables Ajit Malik, Nitin, and Bobby. Given the sensitive nature of the case, the Special Staff of the East District was also involved.
Despite repeated attempts, the injured victim remained largely uncooperative and struggled to clearly identify the location of the incident or the attackers. Consequently, the investigative team relied heavily on technical surveillance and CCTV footage, examining nearly 150 cameras situated across various locations.
Analysis of the footage from the Kondli Pul area showed the victim riding a bicycle toward Nehar Road, Dallupura, accompanied by a minor boy in a green jacket. Approximately 23 minutes later, the victim was seen returning alone towards Kondli Mor, visibly injured. Subsequent footage revealed the same minor boy running after the bicycle and later discarding a small duffle bag near Raj Rani Hospital, where the injured victim sought assistance.
Through persistent CCTV monitoring and local verification, the minor was identified and interrogated in the presence of his parents. In initial questioning, the minor claimed that the injured man was his private tutor and alleged that an unknown assailant had robbed and stabbed the tutor in a dark area of Nala Road in Dallupura.
However, investigators detected numerous inconsistencies in the minor’s narrative and found the overall circumstances suspicious. This led the team to amplify local intelligence efforts, ultimately identifying the prime suspect, Devraj alias Jaggu, a resident of the Kondli area.
A raid was executed at his home, resulting in the arrest of Devraj alias Jaggu. During detailed interrogation, he admitted to planning and carrying out the robbery-cum-stabbing in collusion with the minor. He revealed that the victim, Jay Prakash, had allegedly been sexually abusing the minor over time, leading to deep-seated resentment and a desire for revenge.
To disguise the true motive, the accused staged a robbery at a secluded part of Nala Road. According to his confession, the victim was stabbed, and his mobile phone, along with cash of about Rs 200-300, was stolen. During further questioning, the minor also admitted his involvement in the conspiracy.
Based on the confessions and evidence gathered, a separate case was registered under FIR No. 42/23, Section 75 of the BNS and Section 8 of the POCSO Act against the victim, Jay Prakash.
Police stated that the motive behind the crime was revenge stemming from the alleged ongoing sexual abuse of the minor by the victim. The robbery was deliberately fabricated as a cover for the attack and to secure funds for personal use.
Regarding the accused, police noted that Devraj alias Jaggu, who is over 18 years old, lives in a jhuggi opposite Maitrey School, Kondli Pul, Kondli Extension, Delhi. He has completed up to Class 10 and is currently unemployed.
The recoveries in this case include the stolen mobile phone and the knife used in the commission of the offense.
