New Delhi, May 2 (NationPress) In a significant move aimed at combating air pollution and alleviating traffic congestion incrementally, Delhi's Chief Minister Rekha Gupta officially unveiled a fleet of 400 electric buses on Friday. She also committed to bringing an additional 2,080 smoke-free vehicles into operation this year under the Delhi Electric Vehicle Interconnector (DEVI) initiative.
During the launch ceremony, CM Gupta emphasized her government’s dedication to providing clean air for the residents of Delhi, stating that e-buses are merely one facet of a larger strategy that necessitates a transition of private vehicles to electric alternatives.
“An upcoming EV policy will be introduced to provide incentives and encourage private vehicle owners to embrace these environmentally friendly options,” she asserted.

The launch of the buses, initially scheduled for April 22, was delayed due to national mourning following the death of Pope Francis.
Present at the launch were Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Union Minister of State Harsh Malhotra, and Delhi Transport Minister Pankaj Singh, along with other members of the Delhi Cabinet.
The green buses, initially named ‘Mohalla Buses’ by the previous AAP administration, have undergone trial runs on several routes in recent months.
