Morena, Oct 5 (NationPress) A religious pilgrimage took a devastating turn on Sunday when a tractor-trolley transporting devotees flipped over near Nandapura on Bamsauli Road in Sabalgarh, located in Morena district of Madhya Pradesh.
Tragically, two individuals—a woman and a child—lost their lives, while 18 others suffered injuries, with four in critical condition.
The mishap happened on Sunday afternoon as the pilgrims were on their way back from the Kaila Devi temple in Sabalgarh, a site that attracts numerous devotees during the Navratri and Diwali celebrations.
According to Sabalgarh SDOP (sub-divisional officer of police) Raj Krishna, the accident occurred when the tractor driver attempted to navigate a slope with the fully loaded vehicle in neutral gear, leading to the trolley overturning on a sharp turn.
“The deceased have been identified as Tulsi Bai (23), the driver’s wife, and Sanjna (12), the daughter of his brother, both from Ramkalan village,” the officer explained.
Emergency responders rushed to the scene to transport the injured to Sabalgarh Civil Hospital.
“Three patients with serious fractures were referred to Morena District Hospital for advanced treatment,” he added.
Among those critically injured are Preeti (17), Mithilesh (32), Neetu (28), and Kammoda (55), all from the same village and reportedly part of an extended family.
The police have seized the tractor-trolley for further investigation.
“Following the post-mortem of the deceased, a MERG report has been filed, and investigations are ongoing,” the officer noted.
This tragic event is reminiscent of other similar incidents in Madhya Pradesh, where tractor-trolleys—often utilized illegally for transporting passengers—have been involved in fatal accidents.
In April 2023, another tractor-trolley carrying pilgrims overturned in Gwalior district, resulting in three fatalities and 15 injuries.
Despite ongoing advisories from the transport department, the illegal use of such vehicles for passenger transport continues in rural areas due to a lack of alternatives.
