Key Takeaways
Bhopal/Khandwa, April 10 (NationPress) - A devastating road incident on Friday resulted in the loss of one life and left 36 individuals injured, with 14 suffering from serious injuries. This occurred when a fast-moving truck carrying approximately 40 passengers overturned on the Moondi–Sanawad highway near Dudgaon, in the Punasa outpost area of Khandwa district, Madhya Pradesh.
The victim has been identified as 60-year-old Babulal, from Talwadiya village. All of the injured belonged to the Gurjar community and were returning from a customary ‘mamera’ ceremony (a wedding-related event) held in Thukra Devla village. What began as a joyful journey from Talwadiya (Attar) turned into a scene of tragedy.
As per police reports, the driver lost control while attempting to overtake another vehicle. The overloaded truck veered off the road and toppled, landing approximately 25–30 feet away. Many passengers were trapped beneath the vehicle, prompting locals to rush to the scene to assist the injured using private vehicles and ambulances.
Authorities stated that the truck driver was attempting to pass another truck when the incident occurred. Investigations are ongoing, with police collecting evidence and statements from the wounded. Initially, the injured were taken to Sanawad hospital and subsequently moved to Khandwa district hospital.
Out of the injured, 14 individuals are in critical condition, suffering from severe head and limb injuries, and have been referred to MY Hospital in Indore for specialized care, as confirmed by officials.
Police have indicated that the accident was primarily due to overloading, reckless overtaking, and driver negligence. Further investigations will look into the driver’s state, the truck's mechanical condition, and the precise circumstances surrounding the accident. The fact that most of the injured were from the same community has left the local area in a state of shock.
The local administration is extending all necessary medical and logistical support to the affected families. Authorities have filed a case regarding the incident and are investigating how the truck driver was permitted to transport passengers without oversight, especially during festive family events.
