Delhi Weather Update: IMD Issues Yellow Alert for Light Rain and Temperature Decline

New Delhi, Jan 6 (NationPress) The capital city of Delhi is anticipated to experience a blend of weather phenomena over the next week. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert, predicting light rain during the early hours of Monday.
The IMD indicates that from January 6 to 10, the temperature for Delhi will likely range between 7 degrees Celsius and 18 degrees Celsius. Moderate to dense fog is expected from January 7 to 9, alongside possible thundershowers around January 11. The skies will remain predominantly cloudy throughout this period.
The IMD has also issued a yellow alert for dense fog, advising commuters to take precautions, especially in the early mornings and evenings. These weather patterns may offer a brief relief from the ongoing air pollution crisis in the area.
Recent observations from the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting and Research (SAFAR) indicate a slight enhancement in Delhi's air quality index (AQI), shifting from the 'severe' to the 'very poor' category. As of Monday, the overall AQI is at 317, which is a marked improvement compared to previous days when it surpassed 400 in several locations.
Despite this improvement, major pollution hotspots like Alipur, Anand Vihar, Jahangirpuri, and Narela still report AQI levels exceeding 350. In contrast, the AQI readings in surrounding NCR cities are relatively better: Noida at 188, Gurugram at 164, Greater Noida at 151, and Ghaziabad at 225.
In response to these improvements, the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) has lifted Stage III restrictions under the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) as of Sunday. This decision was influenced by AQI trends observed over the weekend, which demonstrated a reduction in pollution levels due to stronger winds and favorable weather conditions. Nevertheless, the CAQM has cautioned that the air quality may linger in the 'poor' category for several days.
With light rain and increased winds anticipated, further improvements in air quality are expected. However, residents, particularly those with respiratory issues, are advised to stay cautious as the AQI remains in unhealthy ranges.
