New Delhi, Sep 16 (NationPress) On Tuesday, Delhi's Minister of Environment, Manjinder Singh Sirsa, spearheaded a pledge-taking ceremony in celebration of World Ozone Day, reinforcing the government's vow to safeguard our environment.
He was accompanied by senior officials from the Environment Department and the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) at the Delhi Secretariat.
During his speech, Sirsa remarked, “Preserving the ozone layer is a shared duty that we owe to future generations. On this World Ozone Day, we transition from comprehension to decisive global measures.”
Sirsa emphasized that Delhi has taken the lead in eliminating substances harmful to the ozone layer, and will persist in pioneering actions aimed at enhancing climate and air quality.
“I urge every resident of Delhi to support this initiative. Make informed choices, embrace eco-friendly habits, and help create a healthier and more sustainable planet,” he added.
The pledge was part of a workshop aimed at educating officials from the Environment Department and DPCC.
The ceremony, hosted at the Delhi Secretariat, resonated with this year’s theme, “From Science to Global Action,” which celebrates the signing of the Montreal Protocol in 1987. It represented a renewed commitment to safeguarding the stratospheric ozone layer and advocating sustainable lifestyles.
“What we require is a revitalized spirit and determination; only then can a brighter future be achieved,” Sirsa stated.
As part of the event, the Minister and all attendees solemnly pledged to protect the environment.
He also distributed the Ozone Day pledge, which stated: “I pledge to protect the ozone layer by shunning harmful products like CFC-based air conditioners, Halon and Carbon tetrachloride-based fire extinguishers, aerosol sprays that deplete ozone, etc. I will opt for eco-friendly appliances, natural cooling methods, energy-efficient bulbs, and sustainable alternatives in daily routines. Through my choices, I commit to curtail pollution, conserve energy, and protect the environment for future generations.”
Sirsa highlighted Delhi’s proactive involvement in effectively enforcing the Montreal Protocol and its readiness to embrace the Kigali Amendment.
He stressed that the government is devoted to fostering environmental awareness through school eco-clubs, public campaigns, and community initiatives to ensure a cleaner, greener future for the national capital.
