Will Sirsa Challenge AAP MLAs to Debate Pollution in Delhi Assembly?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Jan 6 (NationPress) Delhi's Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa on Tuesday rebuffed the Opposition's claims that the government is avoiding a discussion about pollution in the Assembly. He dared AAP legislators to engage in a constructive debate on this pressing issue during the Assembly session scheduled for Wednesday.
Sirsa sharply countered the Opposition's narrative, stating that the government is more than ready for a discussion on the significant achievements made regarding pollution over the past 11 months.
The Minister emphasized that under the BJP's governance for 11 months, Delhi has experienced the highest number of clean air days in over a decade, a remarkable achievement reached in the year 2025.
Despite this, the Aam Aadmi Party continues to shy away from genuine discussions. “Once again today, they walked out of the House, and I have no doubt that they will avoid the pollution debate tomorrow as well,” he remarked.
Sirsa mentioned that on Monday, AAP MLAs arrived wearing masks valued at ₹2 lakh each, attempting to conceal their identities.
“When questioned by the citizens of Delhi, they showed up today without their masks,” he noted.
Calling it mere theatrics, Sirsa argued that this incident reveals the true nature of the AAP.
“After a decade in power, their leaders have accumulated so much wealth that their MLAs appear in the Assembly wearing masks worth lakhs. But as soon as the people of Delhi demand accountability, they remove their masks. Those who hid their faces on Monday have now revealed them. This is the authentic countenance of the AAP,” he stated.
He criticized the AAP for failing to make genuine efforts towards pollution control during its 11 years in power and for misleading the citizens of Delhi continuously.
“In contrast, within just 11 months, the BJP government has implemented effective measures to combat pollution. We are ready for a thorough debate to unveil how the AAP exploited the pollution issue for years and deteriorated Delhi's air quality,” he asserted.
Sirsa called upon Opposition Leader Atishi and other AAP MLAs to engage in the discussion rather than flee. “There is still time for the Aam Aadmi Party to acknowledge its failures over the last 11 years,” he said.
