Are Mask-Wearing AAP Leaders Dodging Delhi Assembly Talks on Pollution?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Jan 5 (NationPress) On the inaugural day of the Delhi Assembly’s Winter Session on Monday, Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa accused the Opposition Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) members of engaging in theatrics by donning masks, asserting that this was an attempt to evade a discussion in the House regarding air pollution resulting from Arvind Kejriwal’s failures over the past 11 years.
He commented that the sight of Opposition leaders sporting industrial-grade masks costing lakhs of rupees starkly reveals their duplicity.
“These are the same individuals who held significant ministerial roles during their decade-long rule, and all they seem to exhibit now is concern for their personal health, rather than any genuine effort towards improving Delhi’s air quality,” remarked Sirsa.
“The reality is that they accomplished nothing, and that’s precisely what we aim to unveil in the Assembly in the days ahead,” he added.
The opening day of the session was characterized by theatrics and gimmicks, as AAP members arrived wearing masks to draw attention to the pressing issue of air pollution in the city.
Sirsa further stated that while the Opposition leaders are occupied with photo opportunities, the current government under Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has achieved what the AAP government failed to accomplish over more than a decade.
Pointing out the AAP’s diversion tactics, Sirsa mentioned, “The truth is they wish to evade discussions regarding their failures over the last 11 years and our government’s advancements in the Vidhan Sabha.”
“We have confirmed multiple times that a discussion on pollution is on the agenda for this Winter Session; in fact, CM Rekha Gupta herself has declared that there will be a discussion on pollution in the upcoming days. Yet, instead of focusing on facts, they are staging drama after drama to stay in the news, aware that they will be exposed,” stated Sirsa.
He noted that in just 10 months under CM Gupta’s leadership, Delhi has recorded more ‘Good Air Days’ and a measurable enhancement in air quality compared to previous years.
“This is the outcome of persistent efforts and a scientific strategy towards pollution control that our government has adopted,” said the Minister.
