Delhi's Pink Mobility Card for Women Set to Launch by President Murmu
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, March 1 (NationPress) Drawing inspiration from the Central government's 'One Nation, One Card' initiative, the government of Delhi, led by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, is poised to introduce the National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) specifically for women. President Droupadi Murmu is expected to officially unveil this initiative on Monday, as per an official announcement.
The 'Pink Card' initiative will be launched during an event titled 'Sashakt Nari, Samriddh Delhi' at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium, according to Chief Minister Gupta.
At this event, selected eligible women recipients will receive their Pink NCMC cards. This initiative aims to revolutionize the public transportation system in the national capital, making it more modern, inclusive, and digital, as highlighted by the Chief Minister.
The card will allow women residents of Delhi to travel for free on Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) buses. Furthermore, it will provide a seamless paid option for Delhi Metro, the Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS), and other public transportation services using a single smart card.
Chief Minister Gupta expressed that this initiative is pivotal in enhancing public transport accessibility, safety, and digital integration. It is expected to lower daily travel expenses for women and broaden their access to education, job opportunities, healthcare, and various social services.
Three variants of the NCMC cards will be launched under this initiative. The Pink Card will cater to eligible women residents, the Blue Card will serve general commuters, and the Orange Card will be designed for monthly pass holders. Initially, the Pink and Blue cards will be rolled out, with the Orange Card following later.
These cards will be compatible with the existing Automatic Fare Collection System (AFCS) that operates throughout Delhi’s public transport network.
Chief Minister Gupta emphasized that the Pink Card will be issued free of charge to eligible women, with all costs covered by the Delhi government.
Fifty centers will be established for card distribution, including offices of District Magistrates (DMs) and Sub-Divisional Magistrates (SDMs), alongside select DTC centers. The issuance process will require minimal documentation to ensure a straightforward, quick, and transparent experience, she noted.
Each Pink Card will be linked to the mobile number and Aadhaar of the beneficiary. Aadhaar-based verification will confirm age (above five years), gender (female), and residency in Delhi (verified through Delhi PIN code), ensuring eligibility and preventing duplicate applications, according to an official statement.
The Pink Card will operate as a contactless and secure smart card, maintaining a digital record of all journeys, reducing cash transactions, and promoting transparency in revenue management.
The travel data collected will aid in route optimization, effective bus deployment, and informed decision-making, she explained, adding that the Pink Card will replace the current pink paper tickets, thereby modernizing and simplifying the system.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta stated that this initiative is inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision under 'Digital India' and 'One Nation, One Card', marking a significant advancement towards creating an integrated, modern, and women-focused public transport system in Delhi.
