Chief Minister Dhami, sharing the development on X, said the new service would make travel between the two divisions 'adhik sugam, surakshit evam suvidhajanak' (more convenient, safe, and comfortable) while giving fresh momentum to the state's rail connectivity. He also noted its expected role in strengthening tourism, trade, and the local economy. Ramnagar, a town in the Kumaon foothills known as the gateway to Jim Corbett National Park, will now have a direct rail link to the state capital Dehradun in Garhwal, reducing dependence on road travel across difficult mountain terrain.

The launch fits within a broader rail expansion drive in Uttarakhand that successive central governments have pursued to overcome the state's challenging topography. The flagship Rishikesh–Karnaprayag Rail Project — a mountain rail corridor aimed at connecting pilgrimage towns in the upper Garhwal Himalayas — received Cabinet approval and sustained funding as part of Himalayan connectivity initiatives following 2014. Separately, the Amrit Bharat Station Yojana, launched in 2023, is driving the modernisation and redevelopment of railway stations across the country, with several Uttarakhand stations included in the scheme. Railway electrification across the state's existing network is also underway, reducing operating costs and improving service reliability.

CM Dhami credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision for what he described as an unprecedented expansion of rail infrastructure in the state, citing the Rishikesh–Karnaprayag project, electrification, and the Amrit Bharat station upgrades as pillars of a 'new era of connectivity' being established in Uttarakhand.
