Dhanbad Civil Court on High Alert Following Bomb Threat
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
In Dhanbad, Jharkhand, security measures were significantly increased at the Civil Court on Wednesday following an anonymous email claiming that a bomb had been placed within the court's premises.
Officials reported that the threatening message arrived during court proceedings, prompting immediate notifications to the District Judge and high-ranking police authorities.
In a prompt response, officials ordered the evacuation of the entire court complex as a safety precaution. This included the safe removal of lawyers, litigants, court personnel, and visitors from the premises.
Law enforcement, accompanied by canine units and bomb disposal experts, swiftly arrived at the location to conduct a thorough search operation. All access points to the court were secured, and crucial areas such as courtrooms, judges’ chambers, record rooms, detention areas, lawyers’ offices, and parking zones were meticulously examined.
After several hours of searching, no suspicious items or explosives were discovered. Nevertheless, officials emphasized that the threat was being taken with the utmost seriousness.
This incident is part of a concerning trend, as a series of bomb threats have been made against courts and administrative facilities throughout Jharkhand in recent weeks.
On February 12, an identical email was sent to the Ranchi Collectorate, asserting that a sulphur nitrate-based explosive device was concealed on the site. This email also claimed that the bomb squad would struggle to detect the device. Following this threat, the entire area was cordoned off, and extensive searches were undertaken, but no explosives were found.
Earlier, on February 6, the Ranchi civil court had also received a bomb threat through email, leading to extensive searches by security agencies, which similarly yielded no findings.
In light of these recurring threats, the police have activated their cyber cell to investigate the origins of the emails. Ongoing technical inquiries aim to trace IP addresses, servers, and other digital markers related to the threats. Officials are also examining potential links between the recent incidents.
Senior law enforcement officials have stated that enhanced surveillance and security measures are being implemented at vital judicial and administrative sites across the state to avert any potential incidents.
