Hyderabad, Oct 19 (NationPress) Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy stated on Sunday that the “oppressive” Dharani Act instituted by the former BRS government was a significant factor in its electoral defeat.
The Congress party abolished the Dharani Act immediately after assuming power, safeguarding farmers from the potential loss of ownership rights to their lands, Reddy highlighted during an event where he distributed appointment letters to Revenue Surveyors.
He asserted that the populace of Telangana removed the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) government due to the introduction of the Dharani Act.
The CM accused the prior administration of implementing the Dharani Act to grant a select few arbitrary control over land, a measure that led citizens to decisively vote against the BRS government in the Assembly elections. “We promised to abolish Dharani, and we delivered on that commitment promptly upon taking office,” he remarked.
Emphasizing that every struggle in Telangana has been centered on land, he noted that the armed struggle by peasants was aimed at liberating them from the oppression of landlords. “We all regard the land as a cherished mother,” he stated.
Criticizing the previous government for failing to issue job notifications, CM Revanth Reddy remarked that the “People's Government” is actively filling all job vacancies. “We are witnessing joy in the eyes of the unemployed as we undertake the job recruitment process,” he added.
The CM urged surveyors to uphold the rights of landowners and accurately define land boundaries. He warned that any errors made by surveyors could have repercussions for the government.
He also called for cooperation from officials to realize the vision of transforming Telangana into a $3 trillion economy by 2047. “Your collaboration is essential for progress in that direction. Surveyors are key partners in the development of Telangana. We must all support farmers, who form the backbone of our nation,” the CM concluded.
