T.T.V. Dhinakaran Rules Out Sasikala's Return to NDA Following Meeting with Amit Shah
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Chennai, March 21 (NationPress) AMMK General Secretary, T.T.V. Dhinakaran, emphasized on Saturday that there are no intentions to reinstate V.K. Sasikala within the NDA alliance, following his meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi amidst escalating political maneuvers ahead of the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.
This statement emerges during a time rife with speculation regarding Sasikala’s potential return to alliance politics.
Dhinakaran, who visited the national capital earlier in the week, engaged in discussions with HM Amit Shah on Saturday. He also conferred with Union Minister and BJP Tamil Nadu in-charge Piyush Goyal during the trip.
These meetings are perceived as part of a larger series of consultations within the NDA as parties gear up for the impending elections.
Sources revealed that the discussions touched on various electoral matters, including seat-sharing strategies, constituency preferences, and the prospect of AMMK contesting under its distinctive 'pressure cooker' symbol.
However, Dhinakaran downplayed the significance of these discussions while addressing the media post-meeting.
“I did not engage in seat-sharing discussions with Amit Shah. Our focus was on uniting for the elections,” he stated, reiterating that maintaining alliance integrity is the key priority at this juncture rather than delving into specific negotiations.
Reaffirming his stance on Sasikala, Dhinakaran made it clear that there is no plan to incorporate her into the alliance framework, thereby effectively negating any immediate political role for the former AIADMK leader within the NDA.
Critiquing the ruling DMK government, Dhinakaran asserted that the State leadership becomes “uneasy” whenever opposition leaders make their way to Delhi.
He also pointed out the Centre’s financial support to Tamil Nadu, indicating that nearly ₹12 lakh crore had been allotted to the State over the past twelve years.
“We can ensure that Tamil Nadu secures the necessary funds without any hassle,” he added.
Meanwhile, PMK leader Anbumani Ramadoss, also in Delhi, is anticipated to meet HM Shah separately, indicating parallel discussions with vital regional players.
In a related note, Piyush Goyal’s planned visit to Chennai has been delayed and is now set to occur on Sunday.
Formal discussions regarding seat-sharing among NDA allies are likely to commence only after these initial discussions are concluded, suggesting that alliance negotiations are still in an early phase.
