Chennai, Aug 12 (NationPress) AMMK leader T.T.V. Dhinakaran on Tuesday called upon the BJP’s central leadership to initiate discussions with O. Panneerselvam, the former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu and chief coordinator of the AIADMK Cadres’ Rights Retrieval Committee, to reintegrate him into the National Democratic Alliance (NDA).
Dhinakaran emphasized that there has been no communication from the BJP thus far but expressed strong optimism regarding Panneerselvam's return to the alliance.
“We converse frequently. During our conversation yesterday morning, he informed me that a segment of the media had disseminated false information suggesting he had declined to meet B.L. Santosh,” Dhinakaran stated to reporters, refuting rumors about a meeting between Panneerselvam and the BJP’s national general secretary during his recent visit to Chennai.
“As far as I know, there have not been any contacts from BJP leaders with him yet,” he remarked.
“I trust that the leadership in Delhi will take the necessary steps to welcome him back into our alliance. I am quite confident he will rejoin the NDA,” he added.
Panneerselvam had declared his departure from the NDA on July 31, reportedly due to a tepid reception from the BJP.
The AMMK had allied with the NDA prior to the 2021 Assembly elections to contest against the DMK, but the coalition did not yield significant electoral results.
Dhinakaran asserted that Union Home Minister Amit Shah is working to strengthen the NDA's presence in Tamil Nadu and expressed hope for a favorable outcome by December.
“The electorate will respond to this in May 2026,” he remarked, in response to Chief Minister M.K. Stalin’s recent comment suggesting that the AIADMK's defeat in the upcoming elections would start in the western region.
In reaction to VCK leader Thol. Thirumavalavan’s contentious assertion that late AIADMK icons M.G. Ramachandran and J. Jayalalithaa facilitated the entrance of Brahminism into the Dravidian movement, Dhinakaran characterized the statement as indicative of “confusion.”
He noted that Thirumavalavan later sought to clarify that his comments were misconstrued.
Advising the VCK chief, Dhinakaran stated: “Such remarks regarding charismatic leaders who transcended caste and religion are inappropriate. Persisting in making such statements could lead to unfavorable repercussions in future elections.”
