New Delhi, April 5 (NationPress) Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit voiced his concerns regarding the recently approved Waqf (Amendment) Bill, arguing that while the previous Bill had its shortcomings, the new version inadequately addresses the issues faced by the community.

On the Waqf Bill, Sandeep Dikshit remarked, “The prior Waqf Bill had some deficiencies. Issues like land grabbing were significant concerns.”

“There will be opposition, which is understandable. However, I have consistently stated that the Waqf Bill required some adjustments. There were cases of land misuse, and the banking system in our nation has not functioned as effectively as necessary, leading to further losses.”

“Instead of creating unnecessary turmoil, the government could have focused on enhancing the system. The Muslim community continues to question, ‘If landholders are not facing problems, why should others be concerned?’ Despite the efforts of the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC), if the government cannot convey the benefits to the Muslim community, it resembles the situation with the farm Bill.”

He also pointed out that the government withdrew the farm Bill after acknowledging the public discontent.

“They might have taken similar action here had they contemplated the political ramifications. Yet this time, they appear indifferent to the Muslim vote, which is quite concerning.”

Dikshit criticized the government’s political strategy, claiming that the BJP is inflating communal issues to advance its political agenda.

“The BJP exploits every situation to incite communal feelings for votes. This is problematic; the welfare of the people takes a backseat to their political ambitions,” he stated.

Regarding the Ayushman Bharat Scheme, Dikshit expressed skepticism, stating, “I have always been doubtful about Ayushman Bharat. It is not a revolutionary scheme. There have been many problems with its execution. Personally, I experienced situations where family members faced bills exceeding Rs 5 lakh each, which is a concern.”

“However, if the government is offering benefits to its citizens, no state should oppose it. If the Delhi government can enhance the scheme, as Rajasthan did by raising coverage to Rs 25 lakh, then that’s acceptable. Otherwise, the five lakh benefit is insufficient, and a more effective scheme should be introduced.”

The highly anticipated Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) is set to launch in Delhi, marking a crucial advancement in healthcare access for the city's most vulnerable communities.

The Delhi government is preparing to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the central government, solidifying their collaboration to implement the scheme and provide health benefits to the most disadvantaged families.
