DMK Aims for a Complete Victory in All 234 Assembly Seats in the 2026 Tamil Nadu Elections: Minister

Chennai, Dec 7 (NationPress) Senior DMK leader and Tamil Nadu Minister for Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR&CE), P.K. Sekar Babu, has boldly declared that his party will dominate the 2026 Assembly elections, aiming for all 234 seats.

His comments came in response to Tamil superstar-turned-politician Vijay, who had voiced criticism regarding the DMK’s assertion of winning 200 out of the 234 seats in the upcoming elections.

On Friday, Vijay indicated that the populace of Tamil Nadu would turn away from the DMK and its alliances, regarding their forecasts as “boastful.”

While addressing the media after distributing welfare aid to 10 orphanages in Kolathur, Sekar Babu remarked, “Some critics, who have never stepped onto the ground, are questioning our statement that we will win in 200 constituencies.”

“Our target for the 2026 elections is not just 200 constituencies; we are aiming for all 234 constituencies. The DMK will secure all the seats.”

He also took a jab at “certain intellectuals and critics, who are self-proclaimed experts” for expressing doubt regarding the party’s ambitious objectives.

This debate follows Vijay’s remarks during the launch of his new political entity, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK).

Vijay emphasized that while the BJP is his ideological rival, the DMK stands as his primary political foe.

The superstar’s political entry has drawn comparisons to the iconic Tamil actor and politician M.G. Ramachandran (MGR), who was Tamil Nadu's Chief Minister from 1977 until his demise in 1987.

In his inaugural address, Vijay condemned the DMK for what he perceives as dynastic politics, a practice he claims has continued since the era of former Chief Minister K. Karunanidhi.

These remarks have provoked a strong reaction from the DMK, with Sekar Babu, a close associate of Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, responding sharply, igniting discussions in Tamil Nadu’s political landscape.

Chief Minister Stalin has instructed district secretaries of the party to ensure that the DMK and its affiliates secure at least 200 seats in the forthcoming elections.

The DMK has mobilized its organizational framework, assigning full-time operatives to each Assembly constituency to streamline campaign efforts. These full-time workers, selected based on their past performance during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, are responsible for overseeing campaign activities in their designated areas.

Interestingly, these operatives are not locals of the constituencies they manage, a strategic choice made to guarantee impartiality and focus.

These constituency managers are mandated to deliver weekly reports to the state party headquarters, detailing advancements, strengths, and weaknesses in their jurisdictions. To further improve coordination, the DMK has appointed ministers to oversee each district.

The Chief Minister’s Office is closely tracking these ministers’ performances to ensure the successful implementation of government initiatives and programs.

The DMK-led INDIA bloc achieved a significant victory in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, claiming all 39 seats in Tamil Nadu and the sole seat in Puducherry. The party’s organizational prowess was key to this triumph, and a similar approach is being adopted for the 2026 Assembly elections.

A core team of DMK leaders, including Youth Wing leader and Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin, state ministers Thangam Thenarasu and E.V. Velu, along with party organizing secretary R.S. Bharathi, is overseeing the election strategy.

Udhayanidhi Stalin is particularly focused on managing day-to-day operations.

During a recent significant meeting at Anna Arivalayam, Udhayanidhi Stalin reportedly criticized underperforming party leaders who did not meet expectations during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, despite being specifically assigned to roles.

With the DMK currently holding 133 Assembly seats, the party is leaving no stone unturned in its quest to meet its ambitious target.

The 2026 elections are poised to be a pivotal challenge for the DMK’s political strategy and organizational capability.
