DMK Leader Kanimozhi Criticizes TN Governor for Political Maneuvering

Chennai, Jan 7 (NationPress) The Deputy General Secretary of the DMK and Member of Parliament, Kanimozhi Karunanidhi, expressed that it is unnecessary for the Tamil Nadu Governor, R.N. Ravi, to engage in political antics by exiting the legislative assembly amidst a protest march organized by the DMK on Monday in Saidapet, Chennai.

Kanimozhi accused the Governor of meddling in political matters without cause.

She highlighted the incident where the Governor left the state legislative assembly on January 6 without delivering the traditional address prepared by the state government.

Representing the Thoothukudi constituency in the Lok Sabha, Kanimozhi criticized the BJP-led Central government for appointing R.N. Ravi as the Governor of Tamil Nadu with the aim of creating difficulties for the DMK government and disrespecting the Tamil population.

"The position of Governor should not be politicized," she remarked, suggesting that the Governor could take leave if he is unwilling to perform his duties, including addressing the legislative assembly.

She further noted that this was the third occasion on which the Governor has shown disrespect towards the Tamil Nadu Assembly.

Kanimozhi firmly stated that it won't be long before Governor R.N. Ravi is removed from his position.

DMK Organizational Secretary R.S. Bharathi, who joined Kanimozhi at the protest, condemned the Governor for providing "weak justifications" for not delivering the state government's prepared address in the Assembly.

Bharathi alleged that the Governor was envious of the DMK government's achievements, asserting they surpass those of BJP-ruled states.

Notably, Governor R.N. Ravi exited the state legislative assembly on January 6 shortly after the session commenced.

The Governor reportedly objected to the Assembly's decision not to sing the National Anthem, stressing the constitutional obligation to do so.

A statement from the Tamil Nadu Raj Bhavan indicated that both the Constitution and the National Anthem were disrespected in the Tamil Nadu Assembly.

According to the statement, only the Thamizh Thaai Vaazhthu (the state song of Tamil Nadu) was performed, despite the Governor's reminder regarding the constitutional duty to sing the National Anthem.

The Raj Bhavan clarified: "Upholding the National Anthem is one of the primary fundamental duties outlined in our Constitution. It is performed in Parliament at the commencement and conclusion of the President's address. Likewise, it is recited in all state legislatures at the start and end of the Governor's address."

The Governor reportedly urged the assembly to comply with this responsibility, appealing to Chief Minister M.K. Stalin and the Speaker. However, the Assembly allegedly refused to comply.

"Not wishing to partake in such overt disrespect towards the Constitution and the National Anthem, the Governor, in profound dismay, exited the House," the statement concluded.
